Why Browser-Based Document Processing Matters

Traditional document processing requires dedicated software, IT setup, and workflow configuration. Most solutions involve installing desktop applications, configuring server connections, and training users on new interfaces. The barrier to entry keeps many small and mid-size businesses stuck with manual processes.

Browser-based document AI changes this. The tools you need run as a Chrome extension — install once and you have document intelligence available on every page you visit. No desktop software, no server setup, no IT department involvement.

This matters because documents appear in the browser. Invoices arrive in Gmail. Contracts live in Google Drive. Receipts are on e-commerce confirmation pages. Instead of downloading documents to process them elsewhere, you process them where you find them.

DocuScan AI brings DokuBrain's full document intelligence stack into a browser sidepanel: document classification, field extraction, contract analysis, and AI-powered chat with any document.

Installation and First-Time Setup

The setup process takes under 5 minutes and requires no technical knowledge.

Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. Search for "DocuScan AI" or visit the direct link. Click "Add to Chrome" and confirm the permissions. The extension needs access to read page content (for attachment detection and page capture), storage (for your login session), and the ability to open a sidepanel.

After installation, click the DocuScan AI icon in your toolbar. The sidepanel opens with a welcome screen offering two authentication options: sign in with your DokuBrain email and password, or enter a DokuBrain API key.

If you already have a DokuBrain account, sign in with your credentials. The extension stores your session securely and handles token refresh automatically — you will not need to sign in again unless you explicitly log out or your session is revoked.

If you do not have a DokuBrain account, create one at dokubrain.com. The free plan includes document extraction, PDF chat, and up to 50 document saves per month.

Configuring Your Preferences

After signing in, visit the Settings tab to configure your preferences.

API Server: defaults to DokuBrain's cloud. Self-hosted users can point to their own DokuBrain API URL.

Default destination: choose where extracted data goes by default — DokuBrain Corpus, QuickBooks, Xero, or Google Sheets. You can override this per-capture.

The extension remembers your last-used view, so if you primarily use the Chat tab, it opens to Chat when you return.

No further configuration is needed. The extension is context-aware and adapts its interface based on what you are viewing: Gmail emails show attachment detection, PDF tabs show analyze and chat options, and general web pages show page capture.

Your First Document: A Quick Test

Try the extension with a real document to see it in action.

Option 1: Open a PDF in a Chrome tab. Navigate to any PDF — a contract, invoice, or report. The sidepanel shows "PDF detected" with options to Analyze or Chat. Click Analyze to see extracted fields in seconds.

Option 2: Open a Gmail email with an attachment. If you have an invoice or receipt in your Gmail, open it. The sidepanel detects the attachment and offers Extract and Review.

Option 3: Visit any webpage with receipt or order data. Go to an e-commerce order confirmation page. Click Capture This Page in the sidepanel to extract and classify the content.

Each option demonstrates a different capability. The extension works immediately with no training data or template setup — DokuBrain's AI handles classification and extraction automatically.
